A letter from President Kaleb Paulsen
Dear Future University Student,
Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of South Dakota! I am confident that your experience at USD will be everything you're hoping for and more. Having spent two years on campus, I am convinced that one thing separates a good USD experience from a great USD experience; becoming involved. To make your experience all that it can be, I strongly encourage you to explore the vast number of student organizations at USD and join those organizations that share your values and priorities.
One of the student organizations I'm proud to be a member of is Beta Theta Pi. I found in Beta an organization that didn't just "talk the talk," but rather "walked the walk." I found a group of men who didn't just give lip service to the values of leadership, scholarship and brotherhood - they exemplified them.
To recognize outstanding incoming freshmen men who have demonstrated a commitment to our core values listed above, Beta Theta Pi awards three, five hundred dollar scholarships each fall to incoming freshman male students. Attached is the application form for the scholarship. Those who return the application to the address listed below will be contacted to schedule a brief interview at the beginning of the fall 2011 semester.

By applying for these scholarships, you are not committing yourself to membership in Beta Theta Pi or any other organization; rather, you are affirming your desire to strive for excellence. Applications will be reviewed and finalists will be chosen based on academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to service. The Scholarships will be awarded following the interviews within the first two weeks of school. I hope you'll take advantage of our scholarship as we seek to honor men or integrity through financial assistance.
You have made an excellent decision in attending the University of South Dakota, an institution that provides numerous academic, service and leadership opportunities to its students. The leadership skills that my brothers and I have obtained have opened up many doors for us. We have members involved all over campus, and traveling across the U.S. and the world.
I write to you in hopes that you will take advantage of the numerous opportunities available to USD students, including the attached scholarship.
